Colonoscopy

A Colonoscopy is an examination of the large intestine by a flexible tube. It transmits pictures of the bowel lining to a TV-type monitor. This day procedure is completed to investigate symptoms such as altered bowel habits, abdominal pain, low iron, bleeding, or in those with history of bowel cancer or polyps. During a colonoscopy biopsies may be taken to study the health of the bowel wall and polyps may be found and removed (polypectomy), which may prevent bowel cancer. Please see the below fact sheets that may be able to answer any colonoscopy and diagnosis related queries.
