WHAT IS GASTROENTEROLOGY?

Dr. Sunil Kaushik

MBBS (Hons, UNSW), FRAMS, FRACP

Dr. Kaushik is a distinguished Gastroenterologist who earned Honours at the University of NSW in 1986. He has served as a consultant in his field since 1996, working in various locations including the ACT, a teaching hospital in Singapore, and Perth's Royal Perth Hospital.

His primary clinical interests lie in general gastroenterology, with a special focus on oesophageal disorders, gastroesophageal reflux disease, inflammatory bowel disease, colon cancer screening, and small intestinal problems diagnosed through capsule endoscopy. He is also adept at diagnosing small intestinal bacterial overgrowth using Hydrogen breath testing.

Dr. Kaushik played a pivotal role as one of the initial study centres for capsule endoscopy in Australia, which eventually led to its establishment in the country in 2003. He has conducted over 1100 capsule endoscopy procedures to date.

In 2008, he founded the West Coast Endoscopy Centre (WCEC), a standalone private endoscopy facility licensed by the Licensing and Regulatory Unit of the Western Australia Health department. Dr. Kaushik has been the proprietor and license holder since its inception.

Contributing significantly to medical literature, Dr. Kaushik has authored peer-reviewed publications and presented at conferences. He has actively engaged with General Practitioners in the Perth northern suburbs and conducted fundraising efforts during the COVID pandemic.

As a highly experienced GI proceduralist, Dr. Kaushik boasts an impressive track record of completing colonoscopies efficiently. He is a certified colonoscopist by the Gastroenterological Society of Australia, of which he has been a member since 1995.
